Well, we need some intelligence every now and then for making really good decisions. It’s really no different for Uber, the ride sharing company, and based on “more is better”, they’ve just bought some. The brains are from New York, they’re called Geometric Intelligence, and they were a research start-up, before ending up in Uber’s skull. Their knowledge will be used for “Advancing the state of the art, driven by our vision that moving people and things in the physical world can be radically faster, safer and accessible to all.” – said Uber.
Whilst that can mean anything, Uber’s challenges are pretty clear: optimizing travel routes, evaluating risks, keeping the schedules. The team is led by Gary Marcus, a professor of psychology and neural science at the New York University. Uber sometimes faces grave challenges, like in Eastern Europe’s Hungary, where legacy Taxi drivers halted part of the capitals traffic for weeks, and finally big taxi companies lobbied the government into putting great pressure on the company. They finally left the country this summer, leaving the poor Huns in the XXth century.
